At the Station

by Marthe Bijman

This morning, ghastly yellow,
the train howled past, into the fog,
another emerged from the depths
like a tree floating up from a bog.

Lights like gassy blobs in the murk,
People’s blurry silhouettes.
The ochre light of pre-dawn drifted
down in smoky pirouettes.
